Day 11 - 27th September

The “alternative” tick and flea spray arrived in the post today. It’s based on Tea Tree Oil with some Lemongrass Oil. I know the former is widely recognised as an effective antiseptic and the latter as an insect repellent. I just hope I won’t need to use the spray, but it is there if needed.

I have booked him in to puppy training classes from the end of October. The person who runs the classes came highly recommended by friends. She has also heard of and worked with Finnish Spitz before! It’s amazing how many people have not heard of the breed. Apparently, there used to be a breeder near here who has now moved to Lincolnshire. She took puppies to this “school” for early socialisation classes and the older animals were trained there to Good Citizen gold level. So she knows the breed well. She did say that there appears to be a few cases of kennel cough around the area at the moment. Some thing else to worry about!

He had 2 hours in the play pen today at my son’s house. The cat was shut indoors watching every move Lewi made through the window! I managed to get the carburettors cleaned and back, meanwhile Lewi watched the horse and canal boats go past, totally bemused. Actually, he couldn’t actually see the canal boats, due to the hedgerow between, but he was intrigued by the chug chug of their engines. I totally missed the significance of his yapping and whining for the last ten minutes or so that we were there, I soon found out when we got home, he rushed out into the garden and demonstrated the tardis nature of his bladder. I cannot believe the volume that his body can hold.

I went to football this afternoon, Charlotte puppy sat. I suppose that for the two and a half hours I was away, I could have left him on his own, but both he and Charlotte enjoy their time. Charlotte brought her dad this time; he’s a bit of a closet dog lover. They obviously do enjoy that time as when I got home, he hardly gave me a second glance. As I opened the kitchen gate he just trotted past and out to the garden, as if I hadn’t been away.

I think I know why he is not very hungry for his afternoon meal, I delayed it a bit today and he cleaned the plate. I think the problem was that I was feeding more by the clock than by need. I’ve been sticking to the 4 hour intervals, but today it was 5 hours and he was hungry enough to eat it. Or it could have been that he was a lot more active this afternoon or even that he just felt hungrier today or any one of a million reasons I suppose.

He has definitely grown, he can now see over the top the coffee table, which means I have to keep that empty as well. He’s certainly teaching me to be tidy. I only wish the reverse were true! Lots of tidying and hoovering tomorrow morning before the visitors arrive.
