Day 9 - 25th September

Today has been a day of technical disasters. After the camera memory card died, my laptop has all but passed away and then as I tried to warm the milk for Lewi this evening, my hob packed up. Still that is three things now.

Following an exchange of emails with Alison today, I have ordered a new Tick and Flea remedy over the internet based on safer natural products. I must admit, the instructions for the product I got from the vets did frighten me a bit. Very dangerous chemicals. I use no chemicals at all on my allotment, and until this year almost none in my garden. This year I used none in the garden because I knew Lewi was coming, so why should I put poisons on him.

There is an added advantage with this product I have ordered, you can kill individual ticks with it, that'll save the business of removing them with the little plastic removal tools. Save a lot of stress for both him and me. I'll report on how effective it is once it has arrived and I have tried it. Hopefully though he won't pick up any more.

We had another outing to the pet supermarket today. Mainly it was to get out of the house, but we bought more food for him. I can't make out what his favourite is. At lunch time he ate all of the wet food and cleaned it off the dry food mixed in with it, then this afternoon almost the reverse, he picked out the dry and left most of the wet. My aim is to gradually move him over to the dry. He does have a much bigger appetite at lunch time than in the afternoon. That is most likely because he is much more active in the morning and he sleeps more in the afternoon. I was able to take advantage of that today and got the lawn mown while he was asleep indoors.

Whilst he was asleep and I was catching up on chores I popped out to the car to collect some things, three paces from the front door. He woke and came to the door. He was very cautious about it so my quick No and Stay meant that he was startled and moved back from the door. I was pleased with the result and turned it into a little training session, allowing him to come to the doorway again and repeating the exercise twice. Then I stopped, quit while you're ahead. I didn't realise that one of my neighbours was watching, she told me later how impressed she was with him being so obedient so young. Little does she know.

We were practising fetch today on the newly mowed lawn. He has got the idea that he should run for the toy and that he should bring it back to me. It's the dropping or letting go of it that is the stumbling block. Oh well that'll come when we learn “drop” I suppose. Still it gives him some exercise. I'm looking forward to when we can go for walks. A while yet I know, but first step is next week, 10 weeks old and having his vaccination.

Well no photos today again. The new memory card is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so we'll have to have to make up for lost time.
